New New years' resolutions for 2010
At the beginning of each year we all plan to make dramatic changes in our lives in the form of a New Years’ resolution. About this time each year, about a month or so in, those plans are long forgotten. Before this year starts to slip away from you, reevaluate your plans and make a fresh commitment to improve yourself. Below is a list of some of the most common broken resolutions. In 2010, I resolve…
To lose weight The average American gains one to two pounds per year; you may have gained more than that! Wearing all black everyday is not going to help you anymore. Start working out little by little; that way you won’t get burned out too quickly. A good idea is to walk for 30 minutes a day. |

To quit drinking You say you are going to quit drinking, but you gotta finish this drink first! Try to limit how many times you drink per week, but don’t completely ban it. You know if you are not supposed to do something you want to do it even more. |

To eat healthier Fast food makes you fat. If you don’t know how to boil an egg, how are you supposed to eat healthier? Go to your local bookstore and get a simple cookbook with pictures so you can get motivated to make that food. Another option is to get a boyfriend who is a chef, then you’ll be set. |

To find a better job You can’t be a bartender forever. No matter how fun it is now while you are young, being a 50-year-old bartender won’t be as fun as you may think. Find something you are good at and give it your all. Go to school or find your skill or talent and start your own business. Keep your options open and browse for jobs on websites like Monster.com. |

To find a significant other This one usually happens at midnight on New Years’ Eve when you had no one to kiss or kissed some guido you found at the club. It would be ideal to find a boyfriend/girlfriend because Valentine’s Day is around the corner! Dating sites are a good way to meet people. Also try signing up for a sports league. |

To save money Having a credit card is good because you can buy what you want now and pay for it later, but most Americans have more debt than they can afford to pay back. Sometimes we don’t notice how much money we are spending since we just swipe our cards and rarely use cash. Five dollars here and there really adds up. Try to cut on wasteful spending and pay more than the minimum on your credit card bill. |

To do something new So this is the year you will finally learn how to play the guitar since last year you got too busy or forgot, right? Make the effort to actually stick to your plan and don’t overwhelm yourself. Pick one or two things you want to learn. Don’t make a long list or be unrealistic. I want to learn how to surf too, but that is kind of impossible when you live in Dallas. |

To help others Resolutions should not be all about you. You should try to do nice things for others too. Invest some of your free time or money helping others. Go to www.serve.gov and find a local place where your help is needed. |

To travel Everyone likes traveling but it can get expensive. An easy and cheap way to travel is to plan your trip ahead of time and avoid traveling during peak holidays. Browse for cheaper fares on different websites and sign up for frequent flyer miles programs to earn more miles. |
