top 10 greatest superbowl Quarterbacks

They always say that great players make big plays in big games, well the Superbowl is biggest game of them all and no single position has more to do with the outcome than quarterback.

1. Joe Montanta

Super Bowl Apearances: 4

Super Bowl Victories: 4

Total Super Bowl Passing Yards: 1,142

Total Super Bowl Touchdowns: 11

Super Bowl MVP Trophies: 3

I think it goes without saying that Montana is number one. Four appearances, four victories and he was the MVP three times. With numbers like these, he's not just the top Super Bowl QB, he's arguably the best football player of time.

2. Terry Bradshaw

Super Bowl Apearances: 4

Super Bowl Victories: 4

Total Super Bowl Passing Yards: 932

Total Super Bowl Touchdowns: 9

Super Bowl MVP Trophies: 2

Bradshaw is 4-0 in Super Bowls, which is not only impressive, but quite amazing when you consider that two of the victories were against Roger Staubach who is also on the list.

3. Troy Aikman

Super Bowl Apearances: 3

Super Bowl Victories: 3

Total Super Bowl Passing Yards: 689

Total Super Bowl Touchdowns: 5

Super Bowl MVP Trophies: 1

The Cowboy's of the '90s solidified the franchise as America's and behind it all was Aikman. Known as a commanding leader, Aikman and his team dominated for nearly a decade.

4. Tom Brady

Super Bowl Apearances: 4

Super Bowl Victories: 3

Total Super Bowl Passing Yards: 1,001

Total Super Bowl Touchdowns: 7

Super Bowl MVP Trophies: 2

The only thing keeping Brady out of the number three spot, possibly even the number 2 spot, is that the fourth time he made it to the Superbowl, he lost. Blast that Eli Manning!

5. Jim Plunkett

Super Bowl Apearances: 2

Super Bowl Victories: 2

Total Super Bowl Passing Yards: 433

Total Super Bowl Touchdowns: 4

Super Bowl MVP Trophies: 1

Plunkett led those silver black menaces out in west to Super Bowl XIV and then managed to get them back three years later! It's tough enough getting there once, but to keep a team together for that long and take them back? Nice.

6. Steve Young

Super Bowl Apearances: 1

Super Bowl Victories: 1

Total Super Bowl Passing Yards: 325

Total Super Bowl Touchdowns: 6

Super Bowl MVP Trophies: 1

The first single victory QB on the list, but deservedly so considering that Young had what was (is) probably the greatest Super Bowl performance of all time. Of the 24 passes he completed, 25% of them were touchdowns.

7. John Elway

Super Bowl Apearances: 4

Super Bowl Victories: 2

Total Super Bowl Passing Yards: 824

Total Super Bowl Touchdowns: 5*

Super Bowl MVP Trophies: 2

We put a heavy weight on winning and though he made it to four Super Bowls, Elway on won two. To his credit, one of the losses was against Joe Montana.

*3 rushing, 2 passing

8. Bart Starr

Super Bowl Apearances: 2

Super Bowl Victories: 2

Total Super Bowl Passing Yards: 452

Total Super Bowl Touchdowns: 3

Super Bowl MVP Trophies: 2

Let's talk about firsts: Starr won Super Bowl I was the first ever Super Bowl MVP. Now let's talk seconds: Starr won Super Bowl II was the second ever Super Bowl MVP. Any questions?

9. Roger Staubach

Super Bowl Apearances: 4

Super Bowl Victories: 2

Total Super Bowl Passing Yards: 734

Total Super Bowl Touchdowns: 8

Super Bowl MVP Trophies: 1

Like Montana, Staubach got his team there four times. Like Plunkett, there was a gap between the first and second appearance. Unfortunately he was met at the big twice by Terry Bradshaw.

10. Phil Simms

Super Bowl Apearances: 1

Super Bowl Victories: 1

Total Super Bowl Passing Yards: 268

Total Super Bowl Touchdowns: 3

Super Bowl MVP Trophies: 1

The list is not just about what you do right in the big game, it's about what you don't do wrong. Simms eeked by a host of zero loss Super Bowl winning QBs by not only going 21 for 25 and 3 touchdowns, but also for no interceptions thrown.

Notables: Doug Williams (1 win, 340 yards, 4 tds); Ben Roethlisberger (2 wins, 1 td); Bob Greise (2 wins, 1 td)
